Unilock 50 Years

Book design for Unilock’s 50th Anniversary
Unilock is a Canadian hardscape manufacturer. They are the industry’s leader in technical innovation, service, and employee engagement. If you’ve walked around in a major metropolitan area, say Navy Pier in Chicago or the UN Building in New York, you’ve interacted with their product.
This book was a commemorative gift for employees and business partners to celebrate Unilock’s 50th Anniversary. But it was more than that because Ed Bryant, Unilock’s founder, had recently passed away so it became a memorial to Ed as well. Ed’s son Andrew Bryant now runs the company and it was imperative to him the book was both high-quality and highlighted all the people who work at the company. This posed a challenge because low-resolution photos and scans provided by employees needed to be laid out in a way that felt purposeful when coupled with modern high-end photography of projects.
The materials selected, a soft-touch coated and gold-foil embossed cover and 100# coated matte paper stock, helped to create a heftier book that gave it a keepsake feel. Additionally, I chose a horizontal A4 format so the book felt like a true coffee table book, opening to an impressive 24” width.
